Cambridge-Oxford Owners Club raises money for Macmillan Cancer Care at the NEC show.

The Cambridge-Oxford Owners Club decided to do something on a different scale at this year’s NEC show, 1/12th to be precise.

Three rare club cars (a Morris half ton van based Suntor Caravanette, a Morris Oxford Series V and an Austin Westminster A105) were joined on the stand by a 25ft long oval raceway track on which the public could drive radio controlled Cambridge and Westminster derived models against the clock, with the fastest driver winning a Wolseley 6/110 model race car.

The weekend was a great success with many C-OOC members pitching in and marshalling the hordes of young enthusiasts attracted to the stand by the models. In all a total of £432.37 was raised for the charity by charging just a £1 a go.

The idea   was inspired by the recent growth of radio controlled model banger racing   which has meant that a large selection of C-OOC related vehicles are now available as RC models from the sport’s originator, Keith Dowsett at Kamtec in Bogner Regis.

The prize was won, after a nail biting late Sunday afternoon race off, by Rob Hambridge from Burton on Trent who completed 27.4 laps in 2 minutes.

Note from Keith.
It was a hard but very worthwhile weekend. Made lots of money for charity and met lots of new friends. I need to thank a lot of people for their outstanding help. Ben and Kim , Andy Nolan , James Nolan , Brandon Snell , Mandy , Cathy , Bianca , Linda , John Lakey , Chris Ward , Callam Ward , Melvyn Yeo , Zach and Dane. Huge thank you!

There is someone I haven't mentioned though. Andy Clements. Andy came for all three days , took time off work , and never stopped working tirelessly for the whole time. He singlehandedly kept the whole thing going. He barely got a race himself but made sure everything was running. He did what I couldnt do and I am very very grateful. One hellova guy! Thank you !
This pic shows the 4 Kamtec cars after 3 days hard use at the show. The Van got damaged at the back and was replaced on Sunday but the other 3 cars ran for the whole 3 days with practiacally no problems. A great testiment to the bodies and the Mardave cars !!
